Mary Charles (Byrum) Hall's Obituary
Mary Charles (Byrum) Hall was born on September 27, 1926, in Red Oak, Texas to Doss and Mamie Byrum. Mary attended school in Red Oak through high school, then moved to Dallas for a first job with Magnolia Petroleum Company.
Thereafter, Mary attended Draughn’s Business College and SMU night school. She also worked as a secretary for the Legal Department of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Thereafter, she spent 15 years with Macatee Building Specialties Company. While at Macatee, Mary developed a side line of Decorative Trees by Mary Charles. In 1972, Mary opened her own interior design business as Interiors by Mary Charles, doing both residential and commercial work. Interior design was her full time employment and love until 2015, when she retired.
Mary Charles married Romey L. Hall on June 10, 1950. They enjoyed an exceptionally strong and loving marriage until Romey’s passing in July of 2018. Mary Charles and Romey traveled extensively with their friends Mel and Marcel Sherard, visiting Asia, the South Pacific, South America, numerous trips to Mexico and Europe and multiple ocean and river cruises throughout the world.
Mary Charles was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dallas since 1968 and the Aldersgate Sunday School Class since 1993. She joined Beta Sigma Phi in 1945 and she and Romey belonged to several dinner dance clubs, including Rondo-Carrousel and Celebration. Mary was a longtime member of the Dallas Elks Ladies #71. Mary Charles is survived by her nephew Greg Hall of Allenspark, Colorado, niece Cindy Criddle of Lakewood, Colorado and her “adopted” nephews, David Medlin of San Francisco and Edwin Medlin of Carson City, Nevada. Mary Charles is also survived by close family friends Pat
Patterson and Scott Sherard.
Inurnment will be in the Columbarium at the Dallas National Cemetery. A memorial service and celebration of Mary’s life will be held on June 9, 2023 at 10:00 am in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Cemetery, Dallas, Texas. No flowers, please.
