Mary Jane McNair's Obituary
Mary Jane McNairBorn to Robert Lee and Rivers Bryant, April 6, 1929 in Breckenridge, TX. She graduated in 1947 from Tyler High School. Mary studied music and art at North Texas State University and the University of Texas where she met Doug McNair. They were married in 1950. By the age of 25, Mary had three children; Leigh, Julie and Robert. Doug worked for US Plywood and the family moved back and forth from New Orleans and Shreveport, LA until finally moving to Dallas in 1968. The acquisition of two apartment complexes in 1971 changed Mary’s life. She took on their remodeling and, as Doug put it, became Mary McNair instead of Mrs. D. G. McNair. Mary was very talented in so many ways!Doug and Mary went into real estate and worked for Henry S. Miller while acquiring additional rental properties. Mary’s mother was an antique dealer and this was very influential throughout her life. Her time was spent managing properties, running an antique business, taking painting workshops, studying a Course in Miracles, making glass beads and jewelry, playing the piano, singing with the Contemporary Chorale, and oh how she loved mah jongg, teaching many the game.Mary and Doug made so many friends in their lives together that after moving from the apartments to the Oak Bluff house, they hosted many parties and gatherings at their beautiful home. The number of friends they made illustrate how well loved they were. Doug passed in 2015 after 65 years of marriage. Mary courageously continued forward with the loving support of her children and friends. She leaves behind her three children, Leigh, Julie and Robert and three grandchildren, Ethan, Mason and Glen, respectively.A memorial service will take place on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 12:30 PM in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
