Mary Irene Wetterau's Obituary
Mary Irene (McDonald) Wetterau
Well done good and faithful servant! Mary Wetterau, age 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 2, 2022 after a stroke. Mary was loving, kind, and caring to all who crossed her path and she was devoted to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her family and friends.
Born in Camden, AR on December 6, 1932, Mary was the daughter of James Thaddeus McDonald, Sr. and Mary Irene Watts McDonald and was the sister of Dr. James Thaddeus McDonald, Jr. (all of whom predeceased her). She enjoyed an idyllic childhood in Camden and at Mustin Lake surrounded by her large, extended family. Upon graduating from Camden High School, Mary attended Belhaven College in Jackson, MS before transferring to Southwestern at Memphis College (now Rhodes) where she was a Chi Omega and graduated with a degree in History.
After college, Mary moved to Dallas and met her husband, Lin C. Wetterau, Jr. in the Dan Rogers Sunday School Class at Park Cities Baptist Church where they were members for several years and made many lifelong friends. From 1973-1984 they moved with Texas Instruments to Lubbock, TX and attended Second Baptist Church. Upon their return to Dallas they joined Highland Park Presbyterian Church where Mary was a member of Women’s Circle #4 and the Disciples Sunday School Class.
Mary loved playing Bridge with her many Bridge Club friends. Other longtime memberships and activities include the Mary K. Craig Class, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Preston Hill Book Club, Auxiliary of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, and the DFW Colony of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. She was a Golden Owl Member of Chi Omega Dallas. Mary and Lin enjoyed taking each of their grandchildren to Europe before their high school graduations.
Mary is survived by her husband of 62 years, Lin C. Wetterau, Jr. of Dallas, TX, and sons L. Cave Wetterau III (and wife Karen) of Spicewood, TX and James Thaddeus Wetterau (and wife Lee Ann) of Richardson, TX. Her four grandchildren are Stephen Wetterau (and wife Hailey), David Wetterau, Sarah Wetterau and Hannah Wetterau. She is also survived by first cousins Dr. John (and Garnet) Watts, David (and Carolyn) Watts, Mary Todd (and Rev. Bill) Young, and Rev. Tom (and Carolyn) Brown, as well as extended family and many friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Wynne Chapel at 2:00 pm on May 9, 2022 with a reception to follow. Interment will be held at a future date at Greenwood Cemetery, Camden AR.
