Mattie Lea Hornsby's Obituary
Mattie was born August 17, 1926 in Ada, Oklahoma to Oather Floyd and Thelma Manley. She passed away after a short illness March 12, 2016 in Carrollton, Texas. Mattie spent her formative years in Ada. The family moved to San Diego, California, where she graduated from high school. During the war she was an Arthur Murray dance instructor. She married Robbie Robinson and with his airline career moved to Sioux City, Iowa. There they had two children, Mike and Kathy. She was very active in their lives including as a Cub Scout and Brownie leader. When they were transferred to Dallas, with her 4 1/2 shoe size she started modeling shoes during market at the Trade Mart. This is where she developed her lifelong love of shoes. Her daughter called her Imelda Marcos. She worked other markets for various showrooms so she could always “get it wholesale”. When Mattie married Ed Hornsby they moved to Connecticut for two years, where she learned to play golf. She wasn’t very good at it, but she was fast. After her first shot she would take 2-3 clubs with her and say “see you on the green”. They semi-retired to San Antonio for several years and then truly retired to Athens, Texas where they played golf and bridge and loved to entertain. They enjoyed the summers at their condo in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Wherever Ed and Mattie danced they would clear the dance floor because everyone loved to watch “Fred and Ginger” dance. Mattie lit up the room when she walked in, perfectly coiffed (with her weekly trips to the beauty shop), impeccably dressed and accessorized. She and Ed returned to Dallas to a retirement community where they were very active. They made lots of new friends and Mattie became a pro at bean bag baseball (who knew!). She will be missed by all her friends and loved ones. She is survived by her loving husband, Ed Hornsby, son Mike Robinson of Granbury, daughter Kathy Robinson of Dallas. Ed’s children, daughter Cristy Hornsby of Mount Vernon, son Paul and daughter-in-law Lisa Hornsby of Austin, son John and daughter-in-law Kim Hornsby of San Antonio. Also 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 16 2016, 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Memorial service will be Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Restland Memorial Chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. If you desire donations may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
