Maxie Rae Rhodes' Obituary
July 21,1931 - July 30, 2025
Maxie Rhodes passed away on July 30, 2025, in Athens, Texas. She was born in Timpson, Texas.
She led a busy professional life in the mortgage and banking business around Dallas,
Texas. Her roles were: branch manager, loan officer and loan processor. She processed many loans for the Dallas Cowboys in the 60's and 70's such as Chuck Howley, Dan Reeves, George Andre and many others.
She was also very dedicated to the International Altrusa Organization, which is a charitable organization around the world helping their communities. She was President of Altrusa one year and travelled around to several countries for their yearly conventions. She went to Ireland, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand and England. She loved traveling and enjoyed going with her friends on cruises or road trips. She also loved her family and was very involved in taking care of the grandchildren after she retired. They all loved going to their house because she and dad dedicated their whole attention to them.
She was also a dedicated Christian. She belonged to Northlake Baptist Church from the mid-60's until she was unable to attend due to health issues. During the 55+ years at Northlake she served on the personnel committee, church secretary, choir and loved her Sunday School ladies. They would spend hours at Applebee's cutting up and laughing.
Maxie had a very pretty smile and was always "put together". Even up to the end, she had to have her make-up on, nails painted, her cross necklace on and earring to match her outfit.
Her hobbies were jigsaw puzzles (called the Puzzle Queen at her facility), word search books, staying up late on the computer and going to the casino. She also loved cooking
and entertaining for the family. She definitely went overboard on Christmas presents to her children and the grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Bertha and Youree McGowan, sister Wanda
McGowan and brother Darrell McGowan. She is survived by two children Paulette Moore (Ken) and Barry Rhodes, sister Reba Lilly, brother Dean McGowan (Kay), grandchildren Nathan Greer (Lesley), Jacob Greer (Ashley), Allison Chaney (Austin) and Brandon Rhodes (deceased), great-grandchildren Colin Greer, Owen Greer, Hallie Greer, Tyler Greer and Tripp Chaney and several nieces and nephews.
