She grew up on Glenwick Lane which proved to be the happiest block in the city. Her joyful childhood was crowned with the beautiful lifelong friendship with Gloria Slaughter Hammack. During her teen years her best friends formed what is affectionately known as the “Girlie Dinner Club”. This special group of ladies continues to meet regularly to this day. She graduated from Highland Park High School and the University of Texas. The relationships with her sorority sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma was the delight of her days at UT. She served as president of Kappa Kappa Gamma at the University and continued her lifelong service after graduation. She returned to Dallas where she immediately immersed herself in service. She served in the Junior League, Crystal Charity Ball and the Easter Seals Society for Crippled Children. Her life was marked by a heart that longed to love and serve everyone. She had the God given ability to sincerely become close friends with everyone she met. Her greatest joys in life were being a wife and mother. Her children awarded her the title, “ The world’s greatest mother” and she actually embodied the tribute. She built her life on Jesus Christ and daily depended on Him for everything. Her daily schedule included an extended intercessory prayer time for everyone she knew. She lived out Proverbs 31,” Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her, many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. She is survived by her husband, Leonard L. Northrup Jr., her Children Tommy Overton (Priscilla), Nancy Benzmiller (Greg), Susan Eldredge (Linc) and James “Chip” Northrup (Nancy) and many precious grandchildren.
