Norma Lee Arnwine's Obituary
NORMA LEE ARNWINEMAY 3, 1933 – OCTOBER 26, 2019Norma Arnwine of Irving, Texas, passed away on October 26, 2019. Norma was born Norma Lee Roof to Owen S. “Pete” Roof and Annie Delp Roof in Thomas, Oklahoma, on a bright spring day and that would become her way through life. With a brother and two sisters she experienced the growing up years in the wheat land of western Oklahoma. She highly valued those years and those friends, family and memories would be closely held by her for all of her life.After graduating from Thomas High School in 1951, she enrolled in the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Oklahoma City and graduated with honors. She was licensed as a Registered Nurse in 1954 and went to work for one of the cities noted Cardiologists. While at Mercy Hospital she met her husband-to-be, Don L. Arnwine, They were married when he returned from service in the US Army in 1955. She continued her nursing career after they departed for graduate school at Northwestern University in Chicago. She worked at Passavant Hospital. They moved to Denver, Colorado, where her husband had been accepted for further training. She went to work for a physician as a nurse and managed the office as well. She continued in office practice until her first child, Devon, was born in 1961 then became a blessed mother and homemaker. The family grew to four with the birth of daughter, Andrea, in 1962.Her husband fashioned a busy career in hospital and healthcare management and consulting that took them from Denver to West Virginia, then to Irving, Texas. She was the principal cheerleader and advocate for him and her whole family for her entire life.Norma had many interests outside the home as well. She enjoyed many years of playing tennis and golf. She also was long engaged with women’s groups, garden clubs, and bridge clubs and became an accomplished, self-taught, interior decorator. She was one of the first presidents of the Las Colinas Women’s Association. While in Charleston, West Virginia, Norma served on the Board of Directors of the Sunrise Art Gallery, was President of the Woman’s Association for Kanawha Presbyterian Church and the Women’s Association for the University of Charleston. She had many friends and was special to all of them.Her greatest love and pride was her family. She enjoyed travel and her favorite trips were with family.Always elegant, with a smile on her face, Norma is survived by her husband, Don Arnwine, daughter, Andrea Kulikauskas and son-in-law, Bob Kulikauskas, grandson, Adam Powers and his wife, Kate Powers, granddaughter, Alexa Kulikauskas, many loving nieces and nephews and Arnwine and Kulikauskas family members.She was preceded in death by her son Devon Lee Arnwine.There will be a private graveside service followed by a Celebration of Life Service for friends and family at The Grace Chapel at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake on Friday, November 8th at 3:00 pm with a reception immediately following at Las Colinas Country Club in Irving.The family would be honored with memorial donations to any of the following charities that were important to Norma: The Irving Baylor Scott and White Foundation, 1901 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, Texas 75061; the Optimist International Foundation, 4494 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, Missouri 63108; or the CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Foundation, 100 E. Ferguson Street, Tyler, Texas 75702.
