She completed her undergraduate studies in English at Abilene Christian College and was married to Bob Scott on April 28, 1958 in Dallas, Texas. In their nearly 36 years together, they lived a life of service to the Lord’s church … first at Preston Road church of Christ, and eventually at Prestoncrest church of Christ which they helped found and where her husband served as an elder. They both visited missionaries and worked in the mission fields. Pat directed Ladies Bible Class for many years and established a mentoring program for young women called Apples of Gold at Prestoncrest.
In 1994, Pat Scott survived the murder of her husband. In the aftermath of this tragedy, she authored two books, Batten Down the Hatches - Preparing for Life’s Storms and Surviving the Raging Fire. She maintained a full schedule, speaking for women’s retreats and seminars across the United States. She was interviewed for national television and radio programs and spoke for Lecture Cruises. Pat spoke at university lectureships at Pepperdine, Abilene Christian, Harding, Oklahoma Christian, Lipscomb, and Lubbock Christian.
Pat became a knowledgeable grief expert having studied with Dr. Alan Wolfelt at the Center for Loss and Life Transition and earning her certification in Death and Grief Studies through Colorado State University. For twenty years, she served as an adult facilitator with Christian Works for Children in a program for grieving children and their families. She participated in radio programs and served on panels for community outreach to the grieving. In 2005, she was involved in the effort to bring Lifeline Chaplaincy of Houston to hospitals in the Dallas area and most recently served on the Development Board of Lifeline Chaplaincy of Dallas.
In recent years, Pat served on the Board of Trustees for Great Cities Missions and Christian Care Centers, Inc.
