Patricia Ann Ficke's Obituary
FICKE, PATRICIA ANN TROXEL was born in Lima, Ohio, March 13, 1926 to Ferdinand Joseph Brockert and Wanda Leona Hyde Brockert. Her parents passed away when she was four years old as well as a brother before she was born. Patricia (Pat) was adopted by Maude and Charlie Troxel, her aunt and uncle in Oilton, Oklahoma with the stipulation that she visit relatives in Lima, Ohio every two years until she turned twenty one years of age. Growing up, Pat played the flute in the band, studied voice, expression, violin and piano. She also had the lead role in her junior and senior high school plays. In high school during World War II, she ran for football queen and part of the race was who gathered the most paper, tin, iron and anything else needed for the war effort. After graduating from high school in 1944, she was “Rosie the Reviter” in Tulsa, Oklahoma until fall when she went to Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She left college in 1946 and was employed by ‘Ma Bell’ as a service representative for five years before she married Meb Ficke in 1951 and moved to San Antonio, Texas. Her son Mike was born in San Antonio; later her son Denny was born in Dallas, Texas and her daughter Wanda was born in Houston, Texas. The family settled in Dallas in 1960 and needless to say, Pat didn’t want to move any more. In her youth she loved to ice skate and even in her forties, she skated all over the neighborhood when Dallas had a rare ice storm. Pat loved to ride her bicycle all around White Rock Lake, to joke and to laugh and cared for people by taking a lot of clothes, food and toys to shelters. Survivors include her children, their spouses, grandchildren Rachelle, Matt, Nellie and Kelley Ann, her nieces Janet, Marsha and Paula and their spouses in Oklahoma. Pat was a member of Lake Highlands Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 17, 2013 at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
