Richard Tyler Gertz's Obituary
Richard Tyler Gertz, age 34, passed away much before his time on Friday, September 8, 2017, in Corpus Christi, Texas.Tyler was born in Tamuning, Guam on September 2, 1983, to Glen Laurence Gertz and Debra Stone Gertz. Growing up in Guam, he attended St. John’s Prep School and graduated from Evangelical Christian Academy where he received many honors for his outstanding achievements. Tyler was Valedictorian, President of the Honor Society and President of the student body. Additionally, he received the Congressional Honor Award and a scholarship to Chaminade University of Honolulu. Later, after moving to Dallas, Texas, he excelled as an interior designer for the acclaimed East and Orient Company. Recently, he had moved to Corpus Christi where he was working for Alexis Hunter Interiors.Tyler loved traveling, history, and music. He often spoke of his favorite times as those spent with his brother and cousins at the Stone Ranch in South Texas where he loved riding horses, driving mini bikes, and swimming in the Rio Grande. Tyler truly lived life to the fullest and had an uncanny ability to reach people in a meaningful and positive way. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.Tyler is survived by his parents; his brother, Glen Marshal Gertz; his grandparents, Richard and Pola Stone of Corpus Christi and Elizabeth “Betty” Gertz of Dallas; his aunts and uncles, Paige Elizabeth Gertz, Lindsay Gertz Morren, Bryan and Bess Stone, and Scott and CeCelia O’Connell; cousins, Emily and Patrick Wheeler, Sarah and William Teten, Jordan O’Connell, and Andrew Stone; godmothers Carol Arnold Thaxton and Twosy Haegelin; Susan Spalter; Stepmother Claire Gertz and her children Lilly and David Hoffman. He is predeceased by his grandfather, Melvin “Bud” Gertz.Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2017, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Dallas. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Tyler’s life. If you so choose, memorial donations may be made on behalf of Tyler to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas, CASA of Dallas, or your favorite charity.
