Richard Lee Stannard, Sr.'s Obituary
Richard “Dick” Lee Stannard Sr., age 85, died in Lake Charles on May 23, 2018. Born October 26, 1932 to Ronald and Mary Stannard, he graduated from George West High School. Richard served in the Navy until 1953 as an electrician. On September 12, 1954, he married Pauline Davignon.Richard and Pauline lived in a number of cities, most notably Bay City TX, Gregory Portland TX, Santa Fe TX, Grand Isle NY and their favorite, Moss Bluff LA. Richard held a number of interesting jobs until settling into the role that became his career dream – Certified Safety Professional. Richard loved his years in the oil refineries’ safety departments. One of his favorite activities was heading up the fire training school at Texas A&M University during the 1970s and 1980s. Dick continued to work part time until finally retiring at the age of 83.Dick was a Master Mason as well as a Shriner. He enjoyed hunting and fishing during his early years and during his final years, going to the casino. Richard spent years fishing salt water tournaments and made many life-long friendships. He will be especially remembered for his love for his kids, their spouses, his grandkids and great grandkids, his outgoing personality and happy outlook regarding life as well as his Renaissance man personality. Many people described him as “larger than life” and a great mentor. Richard was always willing to lend a helping hand and his safety skills were used more than once to assist in helping and even at times, saving people.Survivors include his children: Danna (Delbert) Clinton of Lafayette, LA; Richard “Rick” (Debbie) Stannard Jr. of Santa Fe, TX and Tammie (Todd) Williams of Coppell, TX. His grandchildren: Richard “Ricky” (Michelle) Stannard III, Miranda (David) Netzband, Laura (Glynn) Trautman, Lauren (Doug) Kliever, Brett Clinton and Scott Williams. Great grandchildren: Jade, Raiden, Kobe and Olive. He is also survived by his close friends: Kevin and Shelley Downs, their children: Courtney, Caitlyn and Garrett as well as Kevin’s extended family; Sue Harrington, Susan Selman, the Bagley’s, Joe Spath, Ed Ladd and so many, many others. Richard lived a life well loved. Richard was preceded in death by his parents: Ronald Stannard and Mary Steward, his sister Patti Gregorcyk and his loving wife of 61 years, Pauline Davignon Stannard.Visitation will be held from 12 – 2 pm, Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, TX. A graveside service will be held at 2pm. There will also be a celebration of life get together at Richards’ home in Moss Bluff. Details regarding this gathering will be announced when available.
