Dr. Robert Clarence Bondy's Obituary
Robert Clarence Bondy, Jr. was born on December 25, 1926 to Robert and Oreoline Morris Bondy in Laredo, Texas. After graduating from Martin High School, he served briefly in the Navy at the end of World War II as a radar operator. He then attended the University of Texas, followed by UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. After completing medical school in 1953 and residency in pediatrics, he joined Dr. Ben P. McCarley in a fledgling pediatrics practice in Richardson, Texas in 1959. The beloved Dr. Bondy and his partners cared for thousands of families over the next fifty years. To the patients he cared for, he was the epitome of compassion while also being a keen diagnostician. Dr. Bondy was predeceased by his brother, Morgan Alcide Bondy, and his first wife, Audra Joan Dugan Bryant Bondy. He married Gabriella Veleba in 1965, who survives him. They raised four children, who survive him: Robert III (Fabiana Martinez), Erika, John David (Susan O’Donnell Bondy), and Elizabeth Bondy Reynolds (Will Reynolds). He is also survived by five grandchildren: David and Andrew Bondy, and Katherine, Bridget, and William Reynolds, and sisters Agnes Bondy Walters and Iantha “Sue” Bondy Huggins. His wife, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and sisters miss him terribly. Dr. Bondy last saw patients at the McKinney Clinic on February 2, 2010. The following week, on February 12, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which mercifully progressed rapidly and without undue discomfort. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Dr. Bondy was a member of the Dallas County Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, Texas Pediatric Society, and the Pediatric Society of Greater Dallas. He was also a Diplomat of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Among the beneficiaries of his volunteer service were: the Agape Clinic at Grace United Methodist Church in Dallas, the Children and Community Health Clinic in McKinney, the victims of Hurricane Katrina, the victims of the earthquake in Nicaragua in 1979, and a mission in northern Peru. A Vigil service will be on Thursday, March 11th at 7pm, at Restland Funeral Home, 9220 Restland Road, Dallas, 75243. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 12th, 10:30am, at All Saints Catholic Church, 5231 Meadowcreek Lane, Dallas, 75248. A reception will follow at the church. The family requests that memorials be made to Saint Timothy Christian Academy, 4550 Legacy Drive, Plano, TX, 75024
