Robert V. Mickels 's Obituary
Robert Mickels, or Bob as many will remember him, passed away on Sunday morning March 15th 2020 at the age of 88.
Robert was born (April 27th 1931) and raised, along with his brother, Gilbert Mickels, in Chicago by his mother Helen and his father Joseph.
After finishing grade and high school in Chicago, Robert completed college at the University of Iowa, earning a Bachelor's of Journalism degree and a commission as a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Subsequently, he spent a year in U.S. Air Force Pilot training and then served as a Military Training Officer at the Air Force Officer Candidate School at Lackland Air Force base near San Antonio, Texas
After completion of his Air Force duties Robert proceeded to build, what may have described as a distinguished career, first, on the client side of advertising and marketing. But soon thereafter, he joined the advertising agency side of the business with such leading firms as Leo Burnett Company, Foote Cone & Belding and NW Ayer, serving many of their clients.
He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, who enjoyed taking his children hunting and camping. He enjoyed nothing better than sitting by the campfire with his friends and family. In his later years, Robert enjoyed a good book about famous hunting safaris or a good spy novel.
Robert is survived by his wife, Marlyss, to whom he has been married to for 60 years. He also leaves behind their children, Grant and Leslie. He is preceded in death by his son Christopher.
The family wishes to have a private family service. There will be a "celebration of life" gathering with friends and family scheduled for a later date.
The family wishes to thank all the members of hospice who so compassionately took care of him in the final months of life and were of great support to his family.
