Robert Nicholas Oswald's Obituary
Robert Nicholas Oswald was born on May 4, 1938 in Milwaukee, WI and passed away on December 21, 2015 in Plano, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents Lester Oswald and Ruth Reichl Oswald, and his brother James Oswald. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Jackie Uebner Oswald, his children Dawn Karboski, Todd Oswald, Mark Oswald, and Kari Rainey, their spouses Jim Karboski, Rick Rainey, and Kathy Oswald, his seven grandchildren Justin, Sarah, Kyle, Chase, Kiana, Matin, and Kayden, his sister Nancy Beheim, and his brother Tom Oswald. Growing up Bob enjoyed family summers at the lake, hunting, fishing, and in his words “futzing with cars”. He attended Park College in Parkville, MO, and graduated with a mathematics degree, but more importantly met and wed the woman of his dreams. Early in his career he was an elementary teacher and supplemented his income as a house painter and shoe salesman. As his family rapidly grew to embrace three of what would ultimately be four children, Bob went to work for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, IA where he was trained as a software developer and soon transferred to Richardson, TX. Bob enjoyed his new career, and eventually worked his way up to management, working at Collins/Rockwell for over 25 years. He genuinely cared for his co-workers, and throughout his life took great pride in his professional career. Bob was raised in a Lutheran family and later embraced the Baha’i Faith in his early 20’s and this became the focus of his spiritual life. He was a devoted husband and father, and blessed his family with his positive outlook on life, his patience, kindness, humor, and grace. A significant portion of Bob’s life was also marked with the life-long struggle of battling the damaging effects of Multiple Sclerosis. In spite of this, he enjoyed life to the fullest, relishing his family life, friendships and career until his health forced him into an early retirement at the age of 55. He loved people and became very involved helping others with this diagnosis. As an active member of the M.S. Society, he regularly answered calls on their hotline, attended conferences, and led a M.S. support group in Plano where he made many close friends and inspired others with his optimism. Bob would tell anyone who asked how lucky he was to be married to the finest woman he had ever known, and how proud he was of his family; all of his children, their spouses, and his grandchildren. Bob will be remembered by his friends and family as someone who cared deeply for others, and for his wonderful sense of humor. In lieu of flowers contributions should be made to the M.S. Society. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2015 from 3:00 PM-5:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at 2:30 PM at The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
