Roger Martin Porter's Obituary
Roger Martin Porter was born the third son to Joyce Shoulders Porter & Claude Billy Porter SR.
on April 9, 1957, in Euless, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his father, Claude Billy Porter SR, mother, Joyce Porter Meek, both sets of grandparents, & numerous aunts & uncles.
Roger is survived by his wife, Melinda Porter, children, Jayden & Tatum Nunnally; sister Claudia Porter Withrow, & husband Jason; brothers, Sandy Porter & wife Betty, Billy Porter JR & wife Bridget, and Ron Porter & wife Viola; stepdaughters Dawn Lawrance & Natalie Thompson; grandsons Nathanel & Braydon Wand, & Bry’on Buckner; nieces Corina Porter, Myka Porter, & Terra Porter; nephews Shawn Porter, Scott Porter, Chris Porter, Joey Porter; great nieces Brooklyn Mckenzie & Maddie Porter, & great nephews, Cecil Cotton, Jett Porter, & Dylan Jones; & his beloved dog Bella.
Roger loved motorcycles and dogs and always had both. He took after his father in the love of barbecuing and cooked some amazing meals. Roger was a big joker, a gentle giant, and was the tallest of the Porter brothers. A motorcycle accident almost claimed his foot and after having several surgeries to repair, he would sit on the beach and tell kids that the scars were from a shark and laugh as they ran away screaming.
Roger followed in his family’s line of work and became a welder, like his father and great Uncle Elbert. Roger was extremely proud to follow in his father’s trade and he was an excellent pipe welder. He once said that he could close his eyes and point to any place on a map, drive there and get a job. And for most of his life, he did, Roger had that kind of skill. Roger often sent pictures of his work to his sister because he was so proud. He also sent pictures of the places he went while traveling for work from all over the country.
As a young man, Roger was trying to find his way and sometimes took the wrong path until he met his amazing wife Melinda in March of 2009 in Anadarko, Oklahoma. They immediately had a connection & needed one another, making their lives complete. God placed them together and soon they moved to Baytown, Texas. Both Roger and Melinda accepted the Lord as their savior and were baptized at Resurrection Church.
Roger & Melinda became guardians of Melinda’s grandson Jayden in June 2014 and later they became guardians of his sister Tatum, in October 2017, then adopted her in September 2018. Roger and Melinda gave those children a safe, wonderful, and happy life. Roger loved Melinda, Jayden, & Tatum more than life itself & was extremely proud to be called a husband and especially to be G-paw to Jayden & Tatum.
After becoming ill with liver disease, Roger rededicated his life to Christ on November 20th. Nine days later, with his wife present, the Lord allowed Roger to be pain free. On November 29, 2021, Roger had the blessing of being with God in Heaven and reuniting with beloved family and friends.
A memorial is being held at White Horse Revival Church, 5711 South FM 565 Cove, Texas 77523 (just east of Baytown) on Friday, December 10, 2021, at 2:00 pm in the afternoon, Pastor “Uncle Dave” Lancon officiating.
A grave side service will be held in Dallas on a later date at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, Texas 75243 where his ashes will be interred in a family plot with his parents, grandmother and auntie. Date yet to be determined.
