Rollin E. MacDuffie of Dallas, Texas died 4/28/2021 in Dallas, Texas of pneumonia complications. He was born 11/20/1930 to Alton MacDuffie and Isabel Estes in Batavia, New York.
He married Evelyn Smith on 6/22/1963.
Rollin served in the army during the Korean War entering service in 1953 returning home in 1956, and at the urging of his employer he went to Alfred State University from 1957-1958 and spent some wonderful days traveling in Germany with his college friends before returning home.
Returning to Pavilion, New York where he was raised and graduated High School (1949) he continued to work at B. R. DeWitt driving trucks and operating loaders. He was so skilled that a leading loader manufacturer filmed him as an educational film for new operators. He always said he loved his job so much that it was not like work. In one big snowstorm the snowplows needed the extra help as the snow was too heavy and he worked 25 hours straight, never happier. Moving to Texas in 1980 he was able to become self-employed utilizing his skills on a backhoe.
Before moving to Texas, he was a member of the Grey Knight Drum and Bugle Corps going to many competitions. He also was a volunteer fireman in Pavilion even calling Bingo when needed.
He also joined the American Legion Post 576 in LeRoy in 1953 and maintained membership joining Post 453 in Dallas where he enjoyed many hours, after his retirement you could find him there making coffee or maintaining the cactus garden at the front door. Post 453 honored him with a ceremony and plaque for 60 years continuous service.
Although Evelyn and Rollin divorced, they stayed close and shared a cruise to Hawaii and he was able to see the Pearl Harbor Memorial which a bucket list item was to do, and before he was too sick, he was able to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
He is predeceased by both his parents, his ex-wife Evelyn and son James.
He is survived by his daughter Linda MacDuffie (Sherman Weeks) of Rochester, sons Richard (Audrey) of Roanoke Texas, and Cecil (Gisele) of Spencerport, NY, and his brother Theodore (Pat) of Pavilion, NY. Rollin is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and a niece and nephew.
He considered himself a Texan giving up on the Buffalo Bills and becoming a Cowboy fan! He was always boasting about the Texas weather when calling back to New York which is why he wants to stay there into eternity.
His last few years he was taken care of by the wonderful people at the Carrollton Rehab Facility in Carrollton, Texas and passed many good hours riding his wheelchair through the halls talking to everyone.
