Roscoe Duke Parrish's Obituary
Roscoe Duke Parrish age 91 passed away Wednesday January 28, 2009 after a long term paralysis illness that began a year ago. Roscoe (also known as “RD”) was born on May 2, 1917 at Wolfe City, Texas and was raised in Wolfe City and Plano. He graduated from Plano High School in 1938 and began a 40 year career with Railway Express Company in Dallas. Roscoe settled in Dallas Oak Cliff then married Blanche Elizabeth (Alford) Lowe (1920-1978) . R. D. is preceded in death by his wife Blanche, son Roger Earl Parrish and sister Alta Mozelle Brierton. He and his wife Blanche were members of the Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Oak Cliff. Roscoe had many friends but his long time buddy was Walter (Decker) B. Mitchell who passed away last year. Roscoe and Decker went to high school together at Plano and remained true friends all of their lives. Some of Roscoe’s friends/cousins were Ed Klinko, Carol Mitchell, Dorothy Johnston, Peggy Mitchell, Sheryl Jennings, Kenneth Knight, Anthony Miller, Stan Cafe (Oak Cliff) patrons, and people at Ashford Hall in Irving. He is survived by his children, Robert Wayne Parrish – Irving, Patricia (Lowe) Moore -Ovilla, Judy (Lowe) Kemp -Wylie, and Nancy (Lowe) Taylor -Irving; also his grandchildren Donny Greer -Oak Point, Cindy Kemp-Smith -Lewisville, Michael Taylor -Keller, Diane Jackson-Simmons -Ovilla, Christi Kemp – Wylie, Terry Moore -Ovilla, Christi Cox, -Wylie, Sheri Saffle -Ovilla, Robert Taylor -Dallas, Tina Kosar -Texas, Angela Parrish -Texas; also he had 22 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held 6:00PM Friday January 30, 2009 at Restland Funeral Home located on Greenville Avenue in Dallas. The funeral will be 12:30 PM, Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Restland Chapel with burial in the “Entrance Garden” next to his wife Blanche. After the services friends and relatives are invited to attend a gathering at Roscoe’s home in Dallas Oak Cliff.
