Dr. Royce Allan Mull's Obituary
Dr. Royce A. Mull went to be with his Savior on Sunday, February 4, 2018. He was born on Sunday, February 18, 1934 at the Parsonage of Rocklane Christian Church in Rocklane, Indiana, the second child of Rev. Charles Everette Mull and Jennette Knowlton Mull. After his father’s service as an Army chaplain in the South Pacific during World War II, the family moved to Terrell, Texas, when he was 12, where his father became the minister of First Christian Church. Royce graduated as valedictorian from Terrell High School in 1952 and entered Texas Christian University. After graduating magna cum laude in 1956, he enrolled at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas and graduated in 1959. He paid his own way through college and medical school—working as a sign painter during summers and playing the organ for various churches. While studying in Galveston, he met Jeanette Elaine Maneval, a nursing student at TCU, at a church camp. They were married on June 5, 1959, and lived in Fort Worth while he finished his internship at John Peter Smith Hospital. In 1960, they moved to Terrell where Royce became an associate of O.S. Leinart, M.D. in Family Practice. Active in Army ROTC in college, he was a member of the National Guard for a number of years. In October 1961, he was called to active service during the Berlin Crisis, journeying from Fort Polk in Louisiana to Terrell to join Jeanette in time for the birth of their second child in June 1962. In 1965, he and Jeanette trusted Jesus Christ as their Savior on the same night at a Festival of Faith meeting in Terrell. After that, their main goal was to live their lives for their Savior and bring up their children in the knowledge of God and His Word. Royce sought to live out his faith before his patients often praying for and with them. On September 1, 1970 he established a solo practice of Family Medicine, delivering over 2800 babies during his career, keeping office hours, and working in the Emergency Room at Terrell’s Colonial Hospital. During these years he earned a Fellowship in the American Academy of Family Physicians. On September 1, 1992 he closed his private practice and joined the Medical Staff of Terrell State Hospital, caring for Geriatric patients until he retired in 2002. After retirement, he and Jeanette moved to Poetry, Texas, where they enjoyed living in an area where they could daily experience the beauty of God’s creation. Royce was a man of many talents—an accomplished pianist, organist and artist. He loved riding motorcycles and maintained his private pilot’s license for many years. He blessed countless people with his quiet and gentle spirit. Although cancer invaded the last year of his life, he met it with strength and confidence in God’s promise of eternal life with Jesus for those who put their faith in Him. He left behind Jeanette, his beloved wife of 58 years, son Warren and wife Jacque, daughter Beth, son Russell and wife Sherri, daughter Stephanie and husband Gordon, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He also leaves behind his younger brother Max and many nieces and nephews. They all look forward to seeing him again in heaven. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 3:00PM, at the First Christian Church in Terrell, Texas, located at 405 N. Adelaide St., Terrell, TX 75160.
