Russell Bryan James' Obituary
JAMES, RUSS, Mr. Russell Bryan (Russ) James, 64, of Erin, TN, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at St. Thomas Hospital. Memorial Service will be held 2:00pm, Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Valley Ranch Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Parsley officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00pm Saturday, prior to the service. Interment in Restland Memorial Park, Dallas. He was born January 3, 1944 in Dallas to Dorris Bryan James and Grace Jane Bennett James. He attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville and SMU in Dallas. He had a 31 year career in Human Resources with Southland Life Insurance Co. which is now part of ING International. He served as Vice President and Treasurer of Southland Life and President of the North Texas Personnel Association. After retiring in 1999, he moved to his wife’s family farm in Houston County, TN, where he took on a second career of volunteerism. He was a past President of Erin Rotary Club and the current President of the Erin Rotary Foundation which administers the Houston County Imagination Library program. He was also a board member of the Houston County Area Chamber of Commerce, Middle Tennessee Workforce Essentials, the Foster Care Review Board, Chairman of Trinity Hospital Board, and Program Chairman of the Golden Agers Club. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Bennetta Dickson Mallory James; son, David Bryan James of Carrollton; daughter, Johanna Dickson James Hewlett of Coppell; sister, Linda James Gillon of Rowlett; grandchildren, Dallas and Raven James of Carrollton, Joshua and Grace Hewlett of Coppell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Houston County Imagination Library, c/o Erin Rotary Club, PO Box 302 Erin, TN 37061.
