Ruth Leathers Larson's Obituary
Ruth Leathers Larson passed away peacefully on August 16, 2018 in Shreveport LA. A graveside Service will be held on Monday August 20 at 2 pm at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas TX.Ruth was born in Dallas TX on February 11, 1923 and was the 5th of 7 daughters born to Amy & Linzy O. Leathers. She graduated from Highland Park High School and continued on to business school. Her 23 year career with Braniff Airlines allowed her to travel extensively. She was married for 21 years to Andy Larson until his death in June 1991.A highlight of her life was when she found a 3.11 carat diamond at the Crater of Diamonds in Murfreesboro AR. It was the 2nd largest diamond ever found there and was named the Eisenhower Diamond due to its resemblance to Ike Eisenhower’s profile.Ruth was a caring and compassionate woman who loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was a lifelong member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and treasured her friendships made there during her 95 years.Survivors include her daughter, Donna M. Fretheim & husband Harold and one grandson Alex, all from the Seattle WA area; sisters Anna Thayer of Arlington TX and Mary Rauder of Houston TX and numerous nieces and nephews.Ruth loved her last few years living at Brookdale Senior Living Solutions in Shreveport LA, which was close to her older sister Mae Bray, and her 3 daughters and 3 nieces. The love between Ruth and the staff was mutual.A special thanks to her beloved niece Mary Ann Breedlove, for her constant care and companionship over the past 10+ years.Memorials can be made to the Highland Park United Methodist Church Library fund or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
