Ruth Adelaide Temple's Obituary
Temple, Ruth Adelaide Crowe passed away on December 12, 2016 in Dallas, Texas. Ruth was born on January 23, 1924 to parents John H. and Bertha A. Cookingham Crowe at Troy, Montana. She graduated from high school at Columbia Falls, Montana and attended Northeast Montana College at Havre, Montana. As an 18 year old she left Montana to go to Seattle, Washington where she worked as a civilian employee for the War Department at the Seattle Port of Embarkation. At a U.S.O. dance, she met a sailor, William Henry Temple, who had survived the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 as a crew-member of the battleship U.S.S. California. Years later Bill told her that he picked her out that night because she had “class.” He was the love of her life. They married in April 1945 and moved to Bill’s home state of Texas in 1946 after he was discharged from the Navy. Ruth was a long-time Federal employee who retired in 1985 after 17 years with the U.S. District Court in Dallas, Texas. Predeceased by her husband of 65 years and her son, David Temple, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jay Welch; grandson and wife, Andrew and Becky Welch; great granddaughter, Harper Welch; daughter-in-law, Iris Stone Temple Ball and granddaughters Jennifer Temple Mangrum and husband, Austin Mangrum and Laura Temple. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Restland Funeral Home. Burial service at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on December 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the U. S.O. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
