Sabino "Sam" Michael Zarro's Obituary
Sam Zarro, 70, passed away on April 14, 2020 after a long battle with cancer.
Sam is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Zarro; daughter Alyssa Turner and son-in-law Phillip Turner; son Michael Zarro; brother Gene Zarro and sister-in-law Cheryl Zarro; brother-in-law Joe Monaghan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. He was predeceased by his sister, Regina Monaghan and parents, Carmela and Gennaro Zarro.
Sam was born in Newark, NJ. He grew up in Bloomfield, NJ in a large Italian family. Sam graduated from Bloomfield High School, where he was in the marching band, played football, and on the wrestling team. Following high school, Sam attended and graduated from Rutgers University.
Sam graduated from Officer Candidate School for the United States Army in 1973 as a Captain. He then served as a Tactical Intelligence Officer and was a Green Beret. During his time in the military, Sam received several awards such as the Senior Parachutist Badge, Army Commendation Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.
Upon leaving the military, Sam moved to Texas in 1979, where he met his wife, Peggy. They married in 1981. Sam became a financial advisor in 1983 and at the time of his passing was a Senior Vice President at Well Fargo Advisors.
Sam was proud to be a father to Alyssa and Michael, and he was very involved in their lives from volunteering in the booster club to participating in Boy Scouts. Sam loved giving back to the community and was an active member of Rotary for more than 35 years. He was a charter member of the Addison Rotary Club and over the years received several awards and held positions such as President, District Youth Exchange Chair, and International Service Chair.
His work and dedication in Rotary Youth Exchange touched many lives locally and internationally. He believed that understanding other cultures would enhance the world. The memorial service will be delayed for a couple of months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
