Sally Ann Winters' Obituary
Winters, Sally Ann ~ A longtime resident of Dallas, entered Heaven on March 3, 2011 following a long and valiant fight against MS. Born in 1939 on the first day of spring, she lived in Detroit, MI until the age of twelve. After losing her parents by the age of twelve, Sally was adopted by her aunt & uncle of Beaumont, Texas where she would graduate from Beaumont H.S. Sally attended The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a degree in Fashion Design. There, she met a fellow design student, Thomas L. Udstuen, who would become the first of two extraordinary husbands. Following their marriage, Sally and Tom settled in Dallas, where Tom, an architect, designed their home in Forest Hills. Sally and Tom, kind and loving parents, raised their four children there. Sally enjoyed being a mother, entertaining friends, traveling and the arts. Eleven years after losing Tom to lung cancer, Sally married her adoring husband, James D. Winters. They spent much time enjoying their children and beloved grandchildren. Together, they actively gave of their time to those in need. Sally and Jim lived in Lake Highlands for many years before settling in Murphy, TX. For as long as we can remember, Sally worked with her hands to serve and delight people in simple ways-volunteering her time for several charities, reaching out to those in need, visiting shut-ins to read the Bible, taking casseroles to neighbors. Sally was a devout Christian and through her journey here on earth, never once waivered in her faith in God or complained about the condition that MS caused her body. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Dr.& Mrs. G.B. Stephenson of Beaumont, as well as her first husband, Thomas L. Udstuen. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, James D. Winters; her daughter, Tamara & Frank Deel (Eden & Nicole); her son, Stephen & Jennifer Udstuen; her daughter, Stacy & Ila Jehl III (Polly & Ila IV); and her son, Thomas & Erika Udstuen II (Ellie). Services will be held at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Restland Wildwood Chapel followed by entombment at Bishop Mason Mausoleum and Columbarium in Flower Mound. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to God’s Food Pantry, www.Godsfoodpantry.com.
