Shirley Jeanne Carter's Obituary
CARTER, SHIRLEY JEANNE died February 20, 2014 at home in Plano, Texas with her loving family attending her. Shirley showed her courage and character in a 13 year battle with cancer. A beloved and wonderful wife, mother of three and grandmother of ten, she was a stay at home mom for her kids and grandkids, providing a loving home atmosphere. She was born April 8, 1937 in Waxahachie, Texas to Howard and Agnes Longino, both predeceasing her. Shirley graduated from Woodrow Wilson H. S. in 1955 and attended a local business school for a short time before starting work at Mobil Oil in Dallas where she met Joe Ray Carter. Shirley and Joe were married in Dallas on May 9, 1957. They enjoyed a beautiful life together in Dallas, New Jersey, London, England, New Orleans, Virginia, and finally back in Dallas in 1992. Shirley made lifelong friends wherever she lived and enjoyed golf, bridge, gin rummy, and singing karaoke with her grandchildren. She also volunteered her time at Presbyterian Hospital in Plano. Shirley is survived by her husband, Joe Carter; children, Joe Richard Carter of Murphy, Michael Carter of Prosper, Laura Brady of Philadelphia, PA and ten grandchildren. She left a legacy of love, joy and laughter with her family and everyone she knew. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held Monday, February 24, 2014 at 2:30 PM at Restland Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Joni and Friends, 2001 W. Plano Pkwy, Suite 3402, Plano, TX 75075.
