Shirley Ann Manuel's Obituary
Shirley Ann Manuel bounded into our world early morning May 7, 1941 welcomed by parents Mary and Smokey Manuel, and sister Dorothy, in Goldthwaite, TX. Her long optimistic and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer ended July 29, 2023. After high school she moved to Austin for business college, and was employed by Prudential Insurance. A few years later she received a transfer to Phoenix, AZ. A transfer to Las Vegas became a pleasant adventure of seeing many famous celebrities. The absolute highlight there was being kissed by Elvis. A final Pru transfer brought the "Texas gal" back home this time to Dallas. After 26 years at Pru she enjoyed employment with financial services companies. Retirement did not last long before she was persuaded to work in the medical field, where she delighted many patients and was delighted by them.
Shirley enjoyed many foreign trips with family including France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, The Netherlands, Ireland, and Scotland. A highlight in London was seeing the Queen, Princess Anne and Princess Diana. Travel to Australia and New Zealand were also enjoyable, even when it was too windy to climb to the top of Ayers Rock. Domestic trips were to Kentucky to visit horse farms and to the races.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brother-in-law Dr. John R. Woodward, and many Colonial ancestors. She is survived by sisters Dorothy Woodward and Loretta Manuel, a maternal uncle Mitchel (Pat) Kanna and many cousins. Her quick wit was charming and endearing and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A Texas-size thank you goes to Dr. Ronald Kerr, his staff, and the infusion unit at Medical City Dallas for their wonderful care over the years. Thank you also to MCD's ER care staff and nursing units as well as Faith Presbyterian Hospice.
A service for Shirley will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in Restland Funeral Home's Wildwood Chapel.
