Teresa Tiseo's Obituary
Teresa Tiseo (nee Murro), age 100, died peacefully on July 5, 2022 at home, surrounded by family and friends. Teresa was born on February 6, 1922 in Pignataro Interamna, Italy; the second child of four. Teresa and her husband Natale were married on May 24, 1943 in the midst of World War II. In 1949 Natale and in 1950 Teresa and their two children – sons Joe and Ben – had the opportunity to move to Detroit, MI. There, the family grew with the addition of five more children – Mary, Tony, Rita, and then twins, Angelo and John. As a homemaker, she incorporated traditions from Italy and sought ways to maintain that connection for herself and her family. In 1981, Teresa and Natale relocated to Dallas, TX. As the family matriarch, Teresa remained actively engaged in the lives of her family, travelling often throughout the United States and Italy to spend time together and share a kitchen, a meal, and some sage advice. Clearly, caretaking was what she intended to do as over the years she built a home and filled it with pure unconditional love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all of their partners and friends throughout the years. Nothing made her happier than spending time with – and feeding – her family and we were always happy to oblige. Whether it be cooking a bowl of pasta, baking a tray full of warm chocolate chip cookies, or picking fresh vegetables from her garden, she encouraged participation patiently from even the tiniest of hands and passed on ancestral knowledge to the next generations. At the celebration of Teresa’s 100th birthday this past February, family and friends recalled and celebrated her long and meaningful life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Natale, daughter Rita Barsotta, son Joe Tiseo, brother Erasmo Murro and sister Anna Rosati. She is survived by her younger brother Antonio Murro, and numerous nieces and nephews in Italy along with her children – Ben (Christiane), Mary (George), Tony (Janet), Angelo (Debbie), John (Sandy), son-in-law, Bill, daughter-in-law Lisa – as well as 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 15 from 5-8pm at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, July 16 at 10am, at Restland Memorial Chapel with internment to follow.
