Thomas R. Selman's Obituary
Thomas R. Selman, 78, of Dallas, Texas died on October 17, 2018 in Seagoville, Texas from complications following surgery in August. Mr. Selman was born October 1, 1940 to Ebb and Mae Selman in Athens, TexasMr. Selman graduated as Valedictorian of the Athens High School Class of 1959. He attended Henderson County Junior College (now, Trinity Valley Community College), the University of North Texas and the University of Texas receiving degrees in political science and counseling. Mr. Selman taught political science at Henderson County Junior College, South Plains College and Collin County Community College for a total of 44 Years.Mr. Selman also had a distinguished 37 year career in Rehabilitation Services serving in numerous executive positions for Goodwill Industries in Dallas, St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Abilene. After leaving Goodwill, Mr. Selman worked in the private vocational and medical rehabilitation field with Intracorp, Pride Dallas, Healthcare Treatment Centers and HRH Rehabilitation Consultants.After retirement, Mr. Selman spent time reconnecting with friends from high school and concentrating on his love of reading and politics. Mr. Selman was an avid collector of political memorabilia.Mr. Selman was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Billy Selman and wife, Margaret, Jack Selman and wife, Para, and Durwood Selman; nephew David Selman and niece, Cheryl Parmele, and two adopted sons, Tom and Steve.Mr. Selman is survived by brother Bobby Selman and wife Sue; sisters Elizabeth Phillips and husband, Jerry, and Dorothy Wasunyk and husband, Peter; sister-in-law Helen Selman; 12 nieces and nephews and many great and great great nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at The First Baptist Church, 522 West Main Street, Gun Barrel City, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the scholarship fund at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas. Messages of condolence may be left on the Restland Funeral Home website.
