Thomas T. Varghese's Obituary
Thomas T. Varghese, fondly called Raju, was born on March 18, 1952 in Maramon, Kerala, India, to the Late T. T. Varghese and Saramma Varghese. He was the youngest of five siblings: the late T.V. Varghese, Marie Mathew, Mathewkutty T. Varghese, and Annamma Maliyil.
When he was in elementary school, he had a fall and fractured his right arm. After treatment, his arm was fine for one year. Later he started developing recurrent pain in the affected extremity. His parents took him to the same doctor, who advised them to take him to Trivandrum Medical College. Immediately, he was taken there and after evaluation the doctor’s report was that the bone had separated, resulting in a tremendous gap. The only option was amputation or bone transplant from siblings or parents. His mother was willing to donate her bone without hesitation. The surgery happened simultaneously and the mother’s pelvic bone was transplanted to the son’s right arm. Raju always lovingly remembered what his dear mother sacrificed for him. He was definitely his mother’s joy.
He graduated from M.M.A High School Maramon and furthered his education in mechanics.
Raju was only 14 years old when his father was promoted to glory. Since his siblings were working or studying outside of Kerala, Raju dedicated his life to care for his paternal grandfather alongside his single mother till his grandfather passed away of natural causes in his 90’s. Raju’s faithfulness in caring for his elderly grandfather was a source of blessing for him his entire life.
On October 26, 1980, he married Soosamma George at Mar Gregorios Orthodox Syrian Church in Eraviperoor. On December 25, 1983, they had their first son, Christo Thomas, and migrated to the United States in July of 1984.
Shortly after arriving to Dallas, Raju came to know the Lord and was saved and water baptized in 1984. Raju and his family resided in Garland, TX and were active members of Maranatha Full Gospel Church of Dallas. In May of 1985, Raju’s second son, Abey Thomas, was born.
Raju was employed at Marmon Motor Company and Intercontinental Manufacturing Company.
During his lifetime, Raju did his best to ensure that he raised his children to have the fear of the Lord by taking them to prayer meetings, youth meetings, and held family prayer every night at home.
Raju is survived by wife, Soosamma T. Varghese; elder son, Christo Thomas and his wife Nancy Thomas; younger son, Abey Thomas; and three grandchildren, Katherine, Kristi, and Kelly Thomas.
He was loved by all and will be greatly missed. We will see him again on the other shore.
