Thurlyne Anita Livingston's Obituary
Thurlyne Anita Livingston began her journey of life March 9, 1941 in Dallas, Texas, to the Parents of Alpha and Pershing Livingston. Thurlyne, known to many as Miss Cookie, was a premature birth, and was given the name Little Cookie in the NIC U. This name remained with her for life.
She attended school at J.W. Ray Elementary, and B.F. Darrell Middle School, and later graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1959. While attending Booker T. Washington, she was a very active student. Serving in many clubs during her high school years such as majorette, Ms. National Defense Cadet Corp., and even Miss Booker T. Washington. Upon graduating she ventured out into the world to attend Prairie View A&M University. Later she met and married Henry Bowman. Together they raised two daughters, Felicia Edmond and Anita Gatson, who reside in Dallas, TX.
Ms. Cookie had a long career as a Data Entry Specialist, at Texas Instruments, LTV Steel and Energy, and Continental Emsco Oil Supply Company.
In 1960, she joined Hamilton Park United Methodist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Zan Holmes. Ms. Cookie found her passion with the Music and Arts Ministry, where she sang and served as a faithful member in numerous choirs and under the direction of many choir directors. She proudly and faithfully ministered her last song on Sunday, September 18, 2022. She will forever be remembered for her “mint bag” that she would pass around during rehearsal and before service on Sunday mornings. It would often make its way back to her with money to replenish the bag for the next week. She even performed with the Dance ministry for a Mother and Daughter tribute. She was also an active Member in the Mature Adults Ministry.
As the matriarch of the family, she led a very active life. Some of her favorite things to do were traveling, attending sporting events, birthday parties, and vacations. She even found the time to teach the younger generation one of her favorite recipes - salmon croquettes. She was blessed to see all four of her grandchildren graduate from college. What a great legacy to leave her family.
Some of her other activities that kept Miss Cookie going was making hair bows, crocheting, and putting together puzzles, which she liked to involve the entire family in, right down to the youngest great-grand-children. And - we can’t forget shopping! Even in retirement, she exercised regularly with the Silver Sneakers organization.
