Tommie Jean Barnes' Obituary
Tommie Jean Lancaster Barnes, an angel from heaven, born Christmas Day, 1937, returned there September 21, 2018. Devastated and lost are her survivors because of the extraordinary person she was here on earth; a precious and perfect wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. So sweet, dedicated, thoughtful, and loving. She lit up every room she entered. To define her life is to acknowledge that Tommie is truly an angel of God. She was a special woman with wonderful ways. Her love for her family, compassion for friends, her beauty, grace, and integrity inspired all of those whose lives she touched. Tommie lived her life in complete obedience of fidelity and a capacity to love and serve others.Tommie grew up in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas, attended Roger Q. Mills Elementary, Boude Story Jr. High, and was a proud honors graduate of W. H. Adamson High School, where she was a Leopardette, Head Leopardette, and Majorette. Tommie was a longtime member of Tyler Street UMC in Oak Cliff and Custer Road UMC in Plano. She was a past president of both the Garland/Richardson Texas A&M Mothers’ Club and the Chancey Book Club. Tommie is now serving by making a place for us in Heaven.Tommie was preceded in death by her parents, Grady Lancaster and Eula Duncan Lancaster, and her sister, Willette Morgan. Tommie is survived by her husband of 63+ years, Jesse Barnes; three children: Valerie Garnier and husband, Tom of Coppell; Vicki Williams and fiancé Marc Savoia of Haymaket, VA; and son Russell Barnes and wife Zhiying of Allen; and grandchildren Meredith Schaaf, Christopher Williams, and Nicole Williams.Graveside services will be held at Restland Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 2:00 PM. The Reverend Jack Gibson will officiate. Burial will be in the Garden of Whispering Waters in Restland.
