My dad was everything to me! As far back as I can remember, the two of us had a very special bond. When I was a little girl, we would dance cheek to cheek in our living room. I'd sometimes wait on the front porch for him to come home from work. Loud, stormy nights would scare me, so I gathered my stuffed animals and came down stairs to sleep with my parents.
We spent some hot, lazy Saturdays with Grandmother and Donnie eating watermelon. Those memories are like gold to me and will stay in my heart forever. When I was in 7th grade, Daddy took me shopping. He bought me navy blue penny loafers and a Polo shirt. The days when mom worked on Saturdays were so fun for me! I had my dad all to myself.
What daddy prided himself the most was his perfectly manicured lawn. Saturday mornings started off with mowing, trimming, sweeping, and watering. Sometimes Daddy would be feeling generous and let me mow a bit of the grass. My dad's lawn was the standard by which all lawns were to be compared.
Daddy was a hard working man who worked at LTV Energy in downtown Dallas. He drove from the suburbs to downtown for 40 years. He was a pioneer in the computer programing world in the 50's and 60's. He was brilliant with numbers and programs; it was hard for me to understand what his job was.
I adored my Daddy and still do. I will miss him for the rest of my life. I know he is safely in the arms of Jesus, and I will see him again someday. I'll always be his little girl.
