Twila "Darleen" Houck's Obituary
Twila “Darleen” Houck, age 93, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2021, in Dallas, Texas after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Darleen was born on May 29, 1928, in Big Run, Pennsylvania as the only child of Ray Orville Craft and Frances Angeline Craft (Cochran). She met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Floyd Houck in Clymer, Pennsylvania where they graduated from Clymer High School, class of 1946. Darleen subsequently attended Altoona School of Commerce. Darleen and Bob were married on August 26, 1950, prior to his entering the U.S. Navy. After his honorable discharge in 1954, they eventually settled in the Detroit, Michigan area where they raised their two children, Brad and Lyndee.
Darleen’s interests focused on her family, home, faith, and friendships. She was a devoted stay-at-home mother and a quintessential 1950’s homemaker. She loved to bake, sew, knit, crochet, play piano, and garden. She was very active in the First Presbyterian Church of Farmington Hills, Michigan. After raising their family, she and Bob retired and moved to Gaylord, Michigan in 1987.
Darleen adored her four grandchildren and surely treasured and embraced every moment with them. She will be remembered for her sweet smile, her precious spirit, affable personality, and her delightful, witty sense of humor - which only improved with age. Countless lives were touched by her lovely, thoughtful presence and graceful manner. Darleen’s love for the Lord and the way she lived her life is best expressed through a favorite Scripture passage:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23 NIV
She is survived by her son Bradley K. (Nancy) Houck of San Antonio, Texas, and daughter Lyndee K. (David) Myers of Plano, Texas. Her grandchildren are Justin Houck, Kristin (Ryan) Jackson, Jonathan (Gillian) Myers and Brianna (Connor) Galvin. Just 32 days prior to her passing, she was blessed with a great-granddaughter, Nora Elizabeth Jackson. She was preceded in death by her loving husband and her parents. We rejoice knowing that Darleen rests in the arms of our loving Father.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Fountain View Continuing Care and Home Support Services at Highland Springs Senior Living, in addition to VNA Hospice, for their compassionate and tender care throughout her illness. A private memorial service will be held by her family. Interment will take place at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice & Palliative Care or the Alzheimer’s Association
