Vernon Earl White's Obituary
Vernon Earl White of Forney, Texas passed away peacefully on June 26, 2022 at the age of 97.
Vernon was born in Corsicana, Texas on January 4, 1925 to Everett and Maime White. He
joined the Navy at age 17 in June of 1942 and was honorably discharged in December 1945.
When asked why he chose the Navy, he said because he knew he could have a shower every
day! He was stationed on the USS Chandeleur in the Pacific. Vernon returned to Texas and
met Ruby Irene Mullins. Vernon’s stepbrother Bill was married to Ruby’s cousin Bernice. The
story goes that Bill told Vernon to come on over and see what he had brought him back from
Tennessee! They met, fell in love & eloped to Rockwall, TX on May 10, 1946. They made their
home in the Dallas area. They lived in the LaReunion apartments in Dallas which was built to
house returning WWII veterans and then the Piedmont Apartments in Pleasant Grove before
purchasing a home on Barney Street. Ruby passed on April 1, 2003. They were married
almost 57 years. Vernon and Ruby enjoyed attending Navy ship reunions for many years
throughout the US. He was a 60+ year Master Mason and a Shriner. Ruby & Vernon were
active members of the Eastern Star for many years.
Vernon was a machinist by trade and retired from Texas Instruments in 1989 where he worked
30 years. He was well respected and liked by his peers and co-workers. At the time of his
retirement, he was superintendent over the tool and fabrication shops. After retirement, he
was employed by UT Southwestern for 5+ years working with physicians to design and
produce phototype instruments used in heart surgery and research projects. He was a smart,
kind & good hearted man who had a subtle sense of humor and was always ready to lend a
hand to those in need. He loved his family and his work. Vernon’s idea of a good day was to
be outside in the sunshine, piddling in his workshop or in the yard and maybe having a cold
beer.
Vernon is survived by his son Hugh White & wife Mary of Seagoville and daughter Vernetta
Fletcher & husband Richard of Garland. Grandsons Mark White & wife Jessica of Forney,
