Virginia Ann King's Obituary
Virginia Murray King was born in Cleveland, OH on June 27, 1925, and was born to Eternity with her Lord on October 9, 2011. A cherished daughter of Frank and Rhea Murray, Virginia grew up during the Depression and adopted life-long values of hard work, thriftiness, and sacrifice. Virginia was beautiful, smart, engaging and kind, yet very humble. She was stunned when she was elected Homecoming Queen in high school, and with typical modesty, had to be pushed onstage by friends to receive her crown. Today she wears a different crown of dazzling glory, a testament befitting her faithfulness to the Lord. After graduating high school, Virginia won a full scholarship to UC Berkeley but chose to attend Fenn College to remain near family. She was working for the Vice President of Trusts at National City Bank in Cleveland when she met the love of her life, James King, on a blind date in 1948. They married in 1950 and dedicated their lives to one another, partners for life. For 61 years they enjoyed dancing, travel, church, and most of all, family. Together they raised two daughters, Judy and Joanie. The family relished spending time together and enjoyed taking cruises to Hawaii, Bermuda, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and beyond. Virginia always stated that her greatest passion and enduring achievement was the loving family she helped create. When her girls were young, Virginia was active in the PTA and organized campouts as the troop leader of Girl Scout Troop 358. In 1967 the family relocated to Dallas, TX, and after her daughters entered high school, Virginia began a stellar 23-year retail career at Neiman Marcus. She loved working in Cosmetics and quickly became Borghese’s top salesperson nationally. As loyal clientele would stand three-deep at her counter, patiently awaiting their turn, Virginia would greet each person with gracious dignity and warmth. She was their trusted advisor, confidante, and prayer warrior. In the 1980s she spearheaded early morning prayer sessions at Neiman Marcus to pray for customers and co-workers, particularly those afflicted by the new AIDS virus. The Marcus family recognized her outstanding qualities and personally awarded her the coveted Neiman Marcus “E” for Excellence pin within her first year of employment. Virginia also enjoyed bridge. Together, she and her beloved husband led the Richardson Senior Center Monday morning duplicate bridge group for over 11 years, and played duplicate bridge with their neighborhood group for over 40 years. Virginia is survived by husband, James King; daughters Judy King and Joanie Norwood; son-in-law Mark Norwood; and grandson James Brienza. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at The Plaza at Edgemere for their tender, loving care. The funeral service, led by Pastor Joe Slaughter, will be held in Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX on Thursday, October 13, at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Generation Ministries International, P.O. Box 800438, Dallas, TX 75380.
