Virginia Agnes Rice's Obituary
RICE, VIRGINIA AGNES died peacefully on February 3, 2014 at the age of 91. Virginia Lawhorn was born Oct. 12, 1922, in Rockwall, Texas. At the age of five, her family moved to Dallas where she lived for the remainder of her life. Virginia was extremely bright and excelled in school, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School at the age of 16. Toward the end of her senior year she met a young man named Walt Rice who graduated the year before. Virginia attended North Texas State University for two years then returned to Dallas and began dating Walt. They were together at an air show when the Pearl Harbor attack was announced. Eight weeks later they drove to Rockwall and were married in a simple ceremony. Their marriage lasted 67 years until Walt’s death in 2010. Virginia was an avid reader, bridge player, crossword puzzle worker and devoted daughter, mother and wife. She loved to laugh and spend time with friends and family. She emphasized the importance of education, honesty, and proper grammar to her children. Virginia was a long-time member of Skillman Church of Christ and spent her last five years at Sunrise Senior Living of Dallas. Toward the end of her life, her greatest desire was to be reunited with Walt and her parents. We rejoice that she is now with them. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Susan Wilson and son-in-law, Gary of Nashville, Tennessee; son, Tom and daughter-in-law, Kim of Dallas; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on February 6, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 12:00 Noon on Friday, February 7, 2014 at Restland Abbey Chapel.
