Viva Leone Folsom's Obituary
Viva Leone Folsom was born June 6, 1924, the fourth of five children to Jesse Savage King and Icy Cunningham King in Dunlap, Tennessee.Viva married Alfred Byron Folsom of Yonkers, NY, on July 15, 1944, in Rossville, Georgia, shortly before he was deployed to Europe while in service with the U.S. Army during World War II. Viva then moved to Yonkers, NY to be with his parents while she awaited his return from the war. After his return and while living in NY they welcomed their two children, Victoria then Donald. Al’s career with Otis Elevator Company moved their small family to Dallas, Texas, in 1954 and ultimately to their new home in Garland, Texas in 1955, where they raised their family and lived out their lifetimes. As a devoted wife and mother, Viva enjoyed tending to her family and their home, including the gardens around the house which always reminded her of her life in Tennessee. She lovingly cared for Al during a lengthy illness until she was widowed in 1980. After his death she spent many years enjoying an active role in the lives of her grandchildren, often telling stories of her childhood adventures and growing up in her beloved Tennessee. Throughout her life she enjoyed keeping in touch with family still in her childhood home and reading the local Dunlap, Tennessee, newspaper as a lifelong subscriber. When her eyesight began to fail she continued reading the newspaper with the use of a visual aid not wanting to miss out on current events back in her little home town. Occasional travels over the years back to visit family in Tennessee were a source of great joy to her.Viva is survived by a daughter Victoria Lynn (Vicki) Folsom Eggleston and husband, Jesse; and a son, Donald Byron (Don) Folsom and his wife, Elaine. Also surviving her are grandchildren Jared B. Weston and wife, Kiki; Jennifer M. Folsom Nowlin and husband, Kenneth (Kennie); Alicia L.
