Wanda Love Ferguson's Obituary
Our mom, Wanda Love Ferguson, went to her heavenly home Saturday morning, October 19th, 2024. We miss her, but at 95 she lived a long and fulfilled life.
Mom, a “Great Depression Baby” was born April 29, 1929 in Slaton, Texas. Her parents, John Taylor and Pearl Bailey Taylor, raised their blended family on farmlands near Lubbock as well as in North Texas. Mom was the 12th of 13 children and the last surviving child of the family.
She met then married Ulysses S. Ferguson in Slaton, Tx in 1946. Their family quickly grew, with their firstborn, David, arriving in 1948. Over the next in 11 years they would welcome 7 children. David and Randy were born in Amarillo, Greg and Becky in Pecos, and Gayle, Gary and Danny were born in Fort Worth.
Church life meant everything to our mom. She was a lifelong and active member of the Pentecostal Faith, working and teaching in every church she ever attended. To know Wanda was to know she loved Christ! That was her testimony in life and now in death.
After our parents divorce In 1962, she moved her family to Garland, which was closer to her workplace, Texas Instruments. When she learned that TI paid for their employees’ education, if they made good grades, Mom began night school. Her determination to succeed led to her graduating from college then earning her Masters in Business Administration from Abilene Christian College. She retired from Texas Instruments in 1985.
Wanda was very involved in her hometown of Farmers Branch, for almost 40 years. She was active in local politics, the Rec Center and local churches. For several years, she sponsored young adults from all over the world who came to the United States to attend an English immersion school. Groups of students revolved through her home for almost a decade.
Mom moved to Denton in June of 2021 to be closer to her children and enjoyed getting to know people here, especially those in her new church, Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God. If you knew our mom more than 10 minutes she would have your birthdate, anniversary and other important dates memorized for life.
Her family was her pride and joy, and recently she lost her beloved eldest child, David. In addition to her 7 children mom loved her daughters in law, Sheryl, Diane and Elizabeth as well as son in law, Jeff Haynes. Her 8 grandchildren and their spouses are, Debby Ferguson Beck, (Charles); Shellie Ferguson Johnson, (Tim); Zachary Smith, (Melissa) Jessica Smith, (Kasey Irons) Taylor Haynes, (Sarah) Brandi Haynes Goellner, (Tim) Rebekah Ferguson and Jackson Ferguson, (Jade). She had 10 great grandchildren, Noah and Jonah Johnson, Claire and Andrew Beck, Logan Ferguson, Jeremiah, Elijah, and Isaiah Smith and JJ and Azaria Ferguson. She had two bonus great grands, Angel and Grace with another great on the way and surely more to come!
Wanda was a force with a “can do” mentality and strong, not-so-subtle, opinions. Her last couple of years were spent in a lot of pain, but a few days ago she heard her Lord and Savior say, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
We love you, Mom.
