Wesley Ord Hufnagel's Obituary
Wesley Ord Hufnagel was born on February 1, 1921 in East Carnegie, Pennsylvania and passed away November 26, 2016, in Dallas, Texas Wesley (Wes) Hufnagel, age 95, died on November 26, 2016. Born and raised in the Pittsburgh area, he graduated from Langley High School at the age of 16, then completed business school. He took his father’s place in the draft for WWII and, starting from a drafted private, was honorably discharged as a technical sergeant at the war’s end. His war experience ranged from enjoying Paris to liberating two concentration camps in Germany. After returning from WWII, he married “the girl he left behind.” Leona (Lee) Koglin, in 1946 and started his long accounting career with Socony Vacuum, which would eventually become part of ExxonMobil. He made his home in Woodbury, NJ, from 1949 to 1976. He was a faithful member of the Woodbury Presbyterian Church, including serving as a ruling elder, member of the Couple’s Club, and anchor of the bowling and softball teams. Part of his leadership in many of the church’s youth programs included taking his daughters’ girl scout troop camping in his avant garde VW microbus. Living in Dallas, TX, from 1976 to 2016, he was active in several churches. After his retirement in 1981, he took up golfing, was active in the Gideons International, and traveled all over the world. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2016, shortly before their 70th wedding anniversary, and is survived by his three daughters Janet (Russ) Geiger, Carol (Kenneth) Heimlich, and Beth (David Adler) Hufnagel, four grandsons, three great-grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew, and close friends Steven and Chris Peebles, their two daughters and grandchildren. Services and interment at Restland Memorial Park (Greenville Road) in Dallas, TX, will be held in the Abbey Chapel at noon on Sunday, December 4th, 2016.
