William Aubrey Godfrey Jr. MD's Obituary
William Aubrey Godfrey Jr., 84, of Dallas, TX went to be with His Lord and Savior on March 7, 2016 and is now rejoicing in Heaven. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and doctor. Aubrey was born in Dallas, Texas on December 9,1931 to Aubrey and Mary Sue Godfrey. Aubrey and his younger sister, Ann, grew up in Kessler Park. His family was active at Cliff Temple Baptist Church and Aubrey accepted Christ as his Savior as a young boy. Aubrey graduated from Sunset High School and felt a calling to join the medical profession. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Baylor University and then received his Medical Degree from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1955. Aubrey joined the Air Force after medical school and 2 years of training at the Dallas VA Hospital. He served in active duty at Carswell Air Force Base Hospital in Ft. Worth where he attained the rank of Major and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal. In July 1962, Aubrey joined Physicians and Surgeons Clinic at Methodist Medical Center in Dallas. He practiced Internal Medicine for 22 years as part of the Methodist Medical Center staff and served as President of the medical staff and member of the board of trustees. In addition, Aubrey served as the Medical Director for Guidestone Financial Resources for 30 years. In 1963, Aubrey married Mary Heffington and together raised their 2 daughters, Martha and Cathy, in Kessler Park. He was involved in numerous medical organizations including Dallas County Medical Society and Texas Medical Association. He served a four year term as Governor for North Texas of the American College of Physicians. He received the Texas Laureate Award in 1997. In the mid 80’s, Aubrey left his medical practice to become the Medicare Medical Director at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas until his retirement in March 1997. Aubrey joined First Baptist Church in Dallas in 1962 and was active in growing in his relationship with the Lord. He has served as a Deacon since 1972 and served on various committees as well. Aubrey and Mary have been part of the President’s Class since 1988. Aubrey and Mary loved spending time with their family and enjoyed having everyone together at the lake making memories. Aubrey also loved to travel with Mary and they had many wonderful trips with different medical organizations. One of their favorite trips was a cruise with Chuck Swindoll. He is preceeded in death by his parents, William Aubrey and Mary Sue Godfrey and his sister, Martha Ann Quisenberry. Aubrey is survived by his loving wife, Mary Heffington Godfrey, and his daughters: Martha Ryan, and her husband, Pat, and granddaughters, Becca and Rachel; Cathy Holmes, and her husband, Russ, and grandchildren, Sarah and Tyler. We will have a graveside service at 10:00 AM at Restland Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate his life on Friday, March 11th at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church Dallas in Truett Chapel. Please join us after the service for a time of sharing your memories and friendship. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Criswell College, First Baptist Academy, or The Alzheimer’s Association. The family is very thankful for your friendship and love through the years.
