William Creacy's Obituary
Creacy, William Wesley, joined his wife, Melba Maxine, with the Lord on November 27, 2009. At the age of 91, he had lived through a lot of the history of this country. He was born on February 17, 1918 in Quitman, Texas to Frances M. B. Creacy and Mary Melvina (Cooper) Creacy. His memories of his youth were based upon working on the farm, i.e. riding on the plow behind the mule. In 1937, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps(CCC), Company 855, Camp BR-54-N in Elephant Butte, New Mexico and returned home at the end of his term of service. He rejoined the CCC in 1938 under the Interior Dept. starting with SP-6-A in Tucson, AZ and moving to NP-7-C at Grand Lake, CO until winter arrived at the end of September in 1939. Then he was transferred to Company 2833, BR-13-A in Yuma, AZ, where he met Melba M. DeHut, the woman who would become his wife. He worked there until a severe earthquake, in July of 1940, halted the project. With the end of his CCC project, he joined the U. S. Navy. He was on duty at the switchboard in San Diego while calls came in from Hawaii that Pearl Harbor had been attacked. He served in many capacities across the Pacific Ocean for the rest of the war, going as far as Saipan shortly before the Atomic bomb was dropped on Japan. Released from the Navy at the end of the war, he continued to use the carpentry skills gained while in the service as the way to provide for his family. He finally retired at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Melba Maxine DeHut, and is survived by his three children, William Wesley Creacy, Jr. (Spouse – Allene Tesch), Karen Lee Singleton (Spouse – N.
