William Michael "Mike" Trant's Obituary
William Michael ‘Mike’ Trant died peacefully at home on February 25, 2016 at the age of 80. Mike was born in Longview, Texas and attended John Tyler High School, where he played baseball and football. He attended the University of Texas, where he played football and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He graduated with a degree in Geology in 1957. Mike was a Naval Aviator, 1st Lieutenant and was attached to U.S. Marine Attack Squadron 311 at El Toro Naval Air Station in Newport Beach, California. He served with the Marine Squadron on the USS Midway at the Iwakuni Air Station, Japan where he flew the A-4 Skyhawk during the years 1961-62. After his active service, Mike flew as a pilot for Braniff Airlines and worked in the oil and gas exploration business in Dallas, co-founding Watco Energy Inc. and later founding Mike Trant Energy Inc. He retired in 2013. He was an active member of Believers Chapel in Dallas and the Frank Hundley Bible Study at Highland Park Presbyterian Church. He is survived by Viginia ‘Jinnie’ Trant, his wife of 54 years, daughters Theresa Gandy of Dallas, Texas and Holly Trant of Bath, England; grandsons Michael Anthony Oldcorn, Matthew Edward Oldcorn and William Christopher Oldcorn; granddaughters Virginia Fern Gandy and Angela Marie Gandy; his brother Sam Trant and sister-in-law Tricia Trant. He is preceded in death by his sister Patricia Trant Kidd. A memorial service will be held on Monday February 29th at 2:00 pm at Believer’s Chapel, 6420 Churchill Way, Dallas, TX 75230. The burial service will take place at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, 75211, on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 10:30 am. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
