William Henry Roach's Obituary
ROACH, WILLIAM H. Was born April 15, 1926 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Clyde and Annabel Roach. He lived most of his life in Dallas, Texas and passed away March 8, 2012 in Hermosa Beach, California. He married Jacquetta Reed of Temple, Oklahoma on June 1, 1947. They had met on a blind date when Jacquetta was 14 and Bill was 16. They had been married for 49 years at the time of her death on July 17, 1996. He grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, graduating from Classen High School a semester early. He turned 18, already a Seaman 1 st class in the Navy. While in the Navy, he went to college on the G.I. bill, first Central Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg, Missouri, then to the University of California at Berkeley, where he was on VJ day. He then went to boot camp in Great Lakes, Minnesota, and served in Washington, D.C. as a typist and file clerk in the Personnel Department. After his discharge from the Navy, he finished his education at Oklahoma City University before going to dental school in Kansas City, where his daughter Cheryl was born. During the Korean War, he served in the Army as a Second Lieutenant, as a dentist on the base in Lawton, Oklahoma, where his son, Reed, was born. Bill and Jacquetta moved to Dallas in 1953 and he began his dental practice in the Casa Linda area. He practiced dentistry there for 35 years. Bill moved to Hermosa Beach, California in August, 2011, to be closer to his daughter, Cheryl. Dr. Roach always had a deep and abiding faith. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church of Dallas for over 62 years and was an active deacon for most of that time. He could always be depended on to visit a sick friend or perform a small kindness that would make a friend’s life better. Bill had a passion for travel, mostly to the British Isles, especially the Yorkshire Dales, which he visited many times. His sense of humor, his love of life, and his generosity of spirit made him a man who had many friends and was beloved and respected. He leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Alan Zabel of Hermosa Beach, California and his son and daughter-in-law, Reed and Joyce Roach, and two grandsons, Jonathan and Ben Roach, all of Dallas, Texas. He is gone from our sight, but forever in our hearts. Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00pm on Thursday, March 15th at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, March 16th at Lakeside Baptist Church, 9150 Garland Road in Dallas.
