William Verner's Obituary
98 YEARS YOUNG. Went to Heaven at 4:05 pm, June 5, Dallas, Texas. Served his country with the Army Signal Corp, commanding 180 men in the CBI (China, Burma, India) in World War II. He led a convoy of trucks over the Himalayas; many interesting stories. Continued in Army Reserves after war, retiring as Lt. Colonel. Grew up in small towns in Texas panhandle. Athletic; motivated to work jobs as a kid after school each day. High School Valedictorian. Was awarded a scholarship to UT Austin. Freshman year at UT Austin, he made the Dean’s List and the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. Retired as Dallas area traffic sales manager for the Burlington Northern. Born to Arthur and Essie. Predeceased by brother and by first wife Elsie F. Mullen Verner. Survived by daughters Deborah Verner and Sharon (Larry) Hoffman. Also survived by 2nd wife Claire, her daughter Roni and her family. His grandsons are Joshua and Brian (Angela). His four great grandchildren are Lauren, Andrew, Gigi and London. Lifelong Methodist. Special thanks to Nurses Amanda and Viji in Hamon Bldg., Presby. Also special thanks to Nurse Donna at Walnut Place Rehab. Our country lost one of the few remaining World War II veterans on June 5, 2015. Sharon and Deborah lost their Daddy. Funeral to be held at Restland Abbey Chapel at 12:00 pm, Saturday, June 13, 2015 with visitation 1 hour prior to the service in the chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
