Wilma Jo Fields' Obituary
Wilma Jo Fields nee Henry Passed away and reunited with her Lord, husband and family on October 14, 2013. Nicknamed Jody by her siblings, she was born December 5, 1934 in Leonard, Texas to William Robert and Bertha May Henry. The baby of the family, she was bossed around by sister, Gladys Mae (Davis) and brothers, James Robert Henry and Charles Roy Henry. They kept a close vigilance over her, approving friends and activities, later boyfriends. Gladys, whom she lovingly called Sister, introduced her to a handsome, enterprising (go getter) coworker from Safeway, Donald E. Fields. He swept her off her feet and they were married Christmas Day 1955. He later worked for Schiaparelli, which relocated them to Kansas City for a few years, but they returned to their family and roots as soon as possible. Wilma worked for E-Systems until her retirement. Don and Wilma were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Barbara Lynn and Lisa Leann. Though she worked outside the home, her priority and vocation was providing a loving and enriching environment for her family. She would iron every weekend so her husband and girls were always well groomed. She loved to cook and was not afraid to try new and interesting dishes. One Christmas, Wilma and Sister tried peanut butter in about half the dishes they made. Very interesting. She was a meticulous housekeeper, appreciative of the finer things they (she and Don) accumulated. Sister and Wilma built homes next to each other where they both lived until their passing. They enjoyed many hours playing Atari games, like “Space Invaders and Frogger”. They were avid card players, often inviting family to join them in Canasta, “Hell” and Skip Bo. In later years, when Sister’s health was fading, Wilma devoted most of her time to caring for her. She spent 8-12 hours a day by her side in the hospital and rehab center. When Sister came home, Jody came every morning to dress her and help with personal needs. She often cooked for her sister and brother-in-law. She felt fortunate to have two loving and thoughtful son-in-laws, whom she could trust with her daughter’s futures. She was ecstatic that Steve and Barbara gave her grandsons, Jason and Brad. Terry and Lisa had a son, Taylor, then years later twins, Ashley and Owen. Wilma loved them all and spent time playing games with them when they were little. When the eldest three outgrew the playing stage, she was always available to cook, listen and offer help when she could. She lived with daughter, Lisa and her family during her final years, which allowed her to spend quality time with the twins. She was proud of every grandchild, their individual personalities and accomplishments. Wilma was a hard worker and a good and faithful friend to many. She had friendships that spanned thirty or more years. She loved George Clooney, Dancing with the Stars and Danielle Steele books. She had read all but the last one published. She had a great sense of humor, sometimes a little dry. You might have to look at her several times to be sure she was joking. Her favorite eating out was a sandwich and coffee from anywhere. She did love sandwiches! Wilma is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, both brothers and sister. She is survived by daughters and sons- in-law, Steve and Barbara Rodda, and Terry and Lisa Fann. She is also survived by grandsons, Jason Rodda and wife, Rebecca, Brad Rodda , Taylor Fann and Owen Fann and granddaughter, Ashley Fann. She also leaves three nieces and some really good friends. Funeral services will be at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
