July 9, 1937 - April 8, 2022
John Robert (Bob) Campbell, 84, went to be with the Lord on April 8, 2022 in Dallas, Texas. A Visitation will be Tuesday, April 12, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held on April 13th at 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church of Richardson, Texas. Bob was suffering from dementia, but as Paul referenced in his letter 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Bob was born in July of 1937 to his parents, Reuel and Dorothy Campbell in Norman, Oklahoma. He was an only child with happy memories as a kid working alongside his dad at their pharmacy that included a soda fountain where he would help serve ice cream. Bob graduated from Central State University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Bob met his wife Linda in 1955 after his freshman year in college. They were married in 1958 in Oklahoma City. Bob and Linda moved to Richardson, Texas in 1959 where he started what would turn out to be a wonderful 39 year career at Texas Instruments. Together, Bob and Linda raised their three kids in a wonderful environment and his kids and grandkids were the pride of his life. Throughout his life, Bob had many interests that he pursued with a passion. Linda and he were avid Square Dancers with the Kissin Kuzzins club. He was a photographer leaving behind volumes of phots and books to capture so many moments. He collected stamps and plates. Probably his biggest passion was keeping journals including journals of all trips he took with his family, and daily journals about his life experiences. Bob attacked his post retirement life just like he did everything, with passion and discipline. He had 4 goals when he retired. He wanted to spend quality time with his wife Linda, he wanted to get in shape, he wanted to jump start his hobbies, and he wanted to volunteer and give back to his community. And did he ever give back to his community. Bob started his volunteer work on Monday morning after retiring on Friday. His volunteer activities included working at The Network of Community Ministries in Richardson, Texas which included time as the President. He became a Stephens Minister, trained to provide one-to-one care to those experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness. Finally, he was most proud of his work as a volunteer Chaplain at Methodist Hospital in Richardson, Texas. Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 64 years, Linda Campbell, 3 children including daughter Karen Wilkerson, son Bill Campbell and wife Sarah, son John Campbell and wife Andrea. 4 Grandchildren including Megan (Campbell) Walter and husband Patrick, Lindsey Wilkerson, Jake Wilkerson and wife Marielle, and Jackson Campbell. Those welcoming him home are his parents Reuel and Dorothy Campbell, his in-laws Jim and Connie Lindsey and his Son-In-Law Ronnie Wilkerson. A special and heart felt thank you from our family to the amazing care givers at Highland Springs in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
