April 10, 1929 - April 9, 2022
Millie Lipscomb Shropulos fell asleep in the Lord and went to her heavenly home on April 9, 2022. She was born on April 10, 1929, and raised in Albany, Texas. A cultural West Texas town of just 3,000 people, Albany provided her an idyllic childhood, highlighted each year by community-wide Christmas pageants and summer productions of The Fandangle. After receiving her degree from The University of North Texas in 1950, Millie attended Parkland Hospital School of Nursing in preparation for her calling as a missionary. She was not only a dedicated, hands-on nurse, but also an instructor at Parkland Nursing School, as polio raged through the country. She graduated in 1953. While attending nursing school, Millie met the true love of her life, George P. Shropulos. George and Millie married at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in 1961, and honeymooned in Colorado, where they later built vacation homes at Elk Creek Ranch. Millie celebrated nature, family, friends, holidays, but most of all, her Christian faith. She worked with The Navigators at the Glen Eyrie Castle in Colorado Springs, Colorado, a Christ-focused retreat center to bring people closer to God. As a renowned Bible study teacher, she led and spawned numerous women’s Bible study groups, co-authored a series entitled Search the Scriptures, and ministered to several communities and countless individuals up to her last days. She drew strength from her intimate early-morning telephone prayer group. She lived her faith. She lived to share her faith. Millie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Dr. George P. Shropulos, her parents Laetta and Wyatt W. Lipscomb, brother Wyatt W. Lipscomb, and sister-in-law Nancy Lipscomb. She is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as dear, dear friends. Her funeral will be on May 7, 2022, at Restland Wildwood Chapel. Visitation begins at 1 pm, followed by services at 2 pm and internment at Sparkman/Hillcrest Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
