Adola E. Cooper's Obituary
COOPER, ADOLA E. nee Ellis was born in Joshua, Texas on April 4, 1921, the daughter of John Benjamin Ellis and Sabra Phenie Ellis. The youngest daughter of six children, she grew up in Ft. Worth, Texas, graduating from Polytechnic High School in 1939. While there she met the love of her life, Truett Cooper, who was a student at nearby Texas Wesleyan College. They married in 1941, making their initial home in Olney, Texas where Truett was teacher and coach at the local high school. In 1942 Truett entered the U S Navy and Adola returned to Ft. Worth to await his return from WW II. Truett died in 1978 after 38 years of marriage, but Adola said that there was not a day of her life that she did not think of him. After the War, Adola determined to make her own career in Advertising. She joined the firm of Evans & Associates of Ft. Worth in 1950, becoming one of the first women in the industry. As her stature in the Advertising field grew, she worked at Fuller, Smith & Ross and joined Bloom Advertising of Dallas in 1964 where she rose to the position of Vice- President of Production. Over the course of her forty-plus year career she won many prestigious awards including Advertising Woman of the Year in 1972 and the Advertising Golden Eagle Award. But of her many awards and achievements, she took the greatest pride in the successful careers of the many women she mentored over the years. Adola is survived by son, Jay Truett Cooper, daughter-in-law, Susan Cooper, grandson, Jeffery Truett Cooper, granddaughter-in-law, Jonni Cooper, and great grandchildren, Jonathon Truett Cooper and Susan Elizabeth Cooper. She is survived by nephews and nieces, Gail Stubblefield, Sabra Caarde, Brad Ellis, Paul Ellis, and Janie Stewart as well as six grandnephews and grandnieces, and very dear friends, Jennifer and Mary. Memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
