Albert "Al" Clarence Shore's Obituary
Al C. Shore passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015 in Dallas, Texas, after a lengthy illness. He was 86. Shore was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he lived until moving to Lawton, Oklahoma for his appointment in the Korean War. He studied Medicine at Duke University for over three years before being drafted in the Korean War. His assignment was to run the radio station at the Fort Sill Army Base in Lawton, Oklahoma. It was there that he met Carleeta. Shore began his illustrious career in Television as General Sales Manager at KSWO-TV in Lawton, Oklahoma, creating the ABC affiliate for the station. He went on to work in television syndication sales for ZIV-TV/United Artists; Bing Crosby/Telcom where he introduced Paul Harvey, ‘Computer Football Forecast,” and “Let’s Go to the Races” to television; At American International/Filmways he broke all previous sales records and led the nation in all sales and volume. With Warner Brothers/Seven Arts, Shore developed the “Prime Time Movie” for stations prior to NBC’ Saturday night feature in primetime. Most of his career was spent as Vice-President of the Southwest Division for Twentieth Century Fox Television where he launched the worldwide syndication of “M.A.S.H” and “Trapper John.” Shore resided in Dallas, Texas most of his life from 1960 on. He enjoyed Cadillacs, tennis, working in his garden, bridge, politics and all aspects of television. Al was a true gentleman – always polite, always thinking of the other person. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Ann Shore Casey and her husband Michael Petrowsky; daughter Sandi Eileen Shore Gaona; Son-in-Law Dave J. Gaona; son, John S. Shore and his life partner Jason McDaniel; grandchildren David Albert Gaona, Maxwell Joseph Gaona and Erin Anne Casey Weber; and other family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents William T. Shore and Willie May Stratford Shore; spouse Carleeta Jean Johnson Shore and sister Lelia Shore Commander; brother Bill Shore and sister Harriet Shore. The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Sunrise of Hillcrest, where Shore recently resided. Al’s family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home. Services for Al will take place at 3:00 pm on Friday, February 20, 2015 at The Abbey Mausoleum at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or to the American Heart Association, or other charity of your choice.
