Albert Richard Whitehead's Obituary
Albert Richard Whitehead, 92, of Sunnyvale, TX. Died 3/30/2021 in Mesquite, TX. He was born 5/3/1928, to Farrell B. Whitehead and Beryl Whitehead in New Orleans, Louisiana. He married Johnnie Lucille Lee on 3/20/1953 in Dallas, Texas.
He is survived by daughter, Vicki Diane Hartsough of Tyler, TX., and son Richard Albert Whitehead of Sunnyvale, TX., 4 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Lucille (Lee) Whitehead.
Albert “Bert” R. Whitehead grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. As a youth, he participated in Golden Gloves boxing competitions, crediting the organization with keeping him off the streets. After graduating high school at 17 and moving to Dallas, he continued boxing, and was even sporting a black eye the day he met his wife, Lucille.
Bert worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 41 years, retiring in 1986. Over the years, he had many hobbies including, golf, painting, photography, and gardening. After retirement, he became a certified Master Gardener. He subsequently wrote and published a book titled, “Don’t Waste Your Wastes – Compost Em.”
Bert was a long-time member of The Park Christian Community Church in Mesquite.
