My Dearest Brother Alex,
It is very hard to say goodbye, so we will just say so-long for now. The pages of your book will never be closed.
I will remember you through the many people still left behind whose lives you touched so positively. You may not realize it, but you leave an amazing legacy behind, your beautiful, beloved child, Alexis. She is your legacy! Through her, you leave this world a better place than when you found it and for that you have to be very proud.
I’m thankful for all the special moments that my brother has left me. And with that, I know that my brother will continue to live on within our hearts and minds.
We’ll mourn the man who’s gone, whom we lost so tragically, but we’ll remember him, and remember that above all, he would want us to remember him as he lived, on the edge of his hockey skates and on the fearless edge of what was possible.
A poem, by Joyce Grenfell:
If I should die before the rest of you
Break not a flower nor inscribe a stone
Nor, when I’m gone, speak in a Sunday voice,
But be the usual selves that I have known.
Weep if you must
Parting is hell.
But life goes on.
So sing as well.
I’ll forever love you Alex. Your sister, Susan
